I worked at Epocrates full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good people, good benefits, flexible schedule. They do make sure to host events and celebrate achievements. Up-to-date equipment, and they really try to make sure you have what you need to work.

Cons

Projects take forever to finish because the chain of approval is too long. There seem to be too many people who have to express their opinion on every little thing, it slows down the process.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more organized and find out why process the so slow.

I have been working at Epocrates full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Management has a solid direction and is following it
Leadership won't suffer fools, takes action
Most of the dead weight is cleaned out
Great business model, ready to turn the corner and do great things unencumbered by legacy red tape at the mid levels
Great C level folks in place now ready to do great things

    Cons

Some mid to low level people and teams are still not getting it
Painful decisions are still probably necessary with regard to more change
Great ideas around new products may take some time
Still need to cut SG&A in the right places

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Its obvious how hard you are working and that your vision is going to work, so stay the course.

    I worked at Epocrates full-time

    Pros

    +great healthcare benefits
    +free gym membership
+working with some truly talented, super smart people (too bad most of them have left or been pushed out)
+good work life balance (depending on your manager)
    +"unlimited" PTO
+ability to work from home (depending on your manager)

    Cons

    - Senior Staff (essentially from CareFx) has come in and fired/pushed out individuals AND full teams without understanding the functions of those they let go, leaving everyone else scrambling to figure out how to get things done
-Senior Staff shutting down programs/innovations because they don't "understand" how these programs/solutions work and would rather just not deal with it
    - No plans in place when new management has come in...a lot of things hanging in the air
    - Communication between teams is discouraged

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Feels like Epocrates is going downhill...back to what it was when we were figuring things out. If you're going to come in to Epocrates, maybe you should learn how things/people work before making any brash decisions. Also if you come in brand new and make big changes to teams (i.e. reorgs), maybe you should have a plan you can share with the team as soon as these changes are made. Employees would appreciate seeing the master plans you have as the basis for decisions that you make.
