I have been working at Equinox Fitness as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

- Best education anywhere. Reveals that most personal trainers have no idea what they're doing.
- Excellent network of professionals - colleagues and members
- Highly supportive and knowledgeable personal training managers

Cons

- 12+ hours / day, 5 or 6 days / week. There is great focus on getting to "full time" status of 21 sessions per week in order to increase your wage significantly. If you are new to training, doing this requires extended hours, many paid at minimum wage or not paid at all. You may often have clients spread out through the morning, afternoon and evening, which means that you are at the club through the entire day with many unpaid gaps in your schedule. The pay / session is better than other clubs but when you average it over the time you actually spend getting and maintaining clients and just being at the club the pay is diluted significantly. After 1+ years, it's easier to control your schedule and take time for yourself but the reality is that the extra activities to get more clients go on forever.
- Approximately 75% of trainers are NOT "full-time". This reflects on how challenging it can be to get there and stay there. It's absolutely achievable, but takes great focus and dedication.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Show that you care about the personal training teams - we are a massive sales team that brings Equinox literally hundreds of millions of dollars. Policies are enforced that feel stifling yet there is no evidence of reaching out to find out how to support us.

I worked at Equinox Fitness full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Sexy, fun environment with a great clientele and a commitment to truly be the best in the business

    Cons

Poor work life balance especially at the end of the month when many employees are required to work 3-4 12+hour days. Compensation isn't always in line with amount of work and effort provided by employees. Not bad, but maybe not always as good as it should be for hours worked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to continue to find a way to prevent turn over in employee base, specifically in personal training staff and sales team and in club personal. Corporate retention is much stronger. There's a reason for that.
