Pros

Best benefits in the world!
Work-life balance is great, depending on which department you're working.
Internal training is excellent, much of it is "free" to your department.

Cons

Career opportunities are posted (like every company), but there is no progression path other than just adding a II, III, or IV after your title. Seeking advanced positions is very difficult because the corporate requirements on training, experience, and required evaluations are very strict even though the company will hire externally for advanced positions without all the internal requirements.

Salary ranges for departments/jobs are hidden, so you cannot tell if a posted job is a promotional opportunity or not.

Your current manager must allow you to interview before you can apply for any internal job posting.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Though management professes "Ericsson Business Process," the account teams don't follow it. Encourage them to get with the process and margins will increase.

Good company overall...but too many communication / Org issues compared to other large companies of similar size.

    Pros

    Good health care benefits provided...ppo

    Cons

Poor top down communications in policies. Too many people assuming authority which don't have it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your management team in San Jose PDUIP is clueless as to who is valuable...which sites are valuable...and those which are not.

Haphazard workplace, big picture is not filtered down, not enough challenging projects

I have been working at Ericsson-Worldwide full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable to Very Stable. Excellent work/life balance, excellent health benefits, generous 401K match (7%) if you're interested in that sort of a thing.

    Cons

If you're looking for creative work, don't come here (for software engineers). The kind of problems solved are in the areas of software packaging. This isn't an engineering run organization, but one run by product & project managers. ALL requirements are customer/marketing fed, and managers *never* miss schedules, regardless of product quality. Input from engineers is never considered, and you will spend your time on meeting stakeholder requirements, than on getting some actual work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For executive management: Challenge your managers to work on quality projects. Change the culture from a marketing feeding requirements to requirements coming from below (engineers). Don't be obsessed with deadlines, they mean nothing if everyone is simply going to scrub the bugs to meet their goals. Promote visionaries, not operational people.
Advice to Engineers: Don't be afraid to say no. And don't be afraid to seek out new areas to work on. If you don't challenge yourself, you aren't going anywhere.
