For sales...you are in charge of your business. Lots of freedom...good bosses....good culture...very nice benefits


Tough to adapt if you are used to structured job. Mgmt talks about culture as though its something they can control and change as often as they wish.

    I worked at Ethicon Endo-Surgery as an intern for less than a year


    They give co-ops a lot of responsibility and experience considering they are undergrads. You get more assignments and work the more you insert yourself into the team.


    You only get taken so seriously as a co-op and your opinion counts for little.

    A once great company - now just "a place to work"

    I have been working at Ethicon Endo-Surgery full-time for more than 10 years


    - Lots of really smart people, who at least USED to be passionate about the business
    - Still a large, profitable business


    - Despite what the Credo says, really doesn't care much about their people
    - Top-heavy, bloated structure that makes it impossible to make any decisions or get anything done (and it's getting worse - recent reorganzations have cut employees and added layer after layer of VP's)
    - This company is now the "ATM" of J&J, and is engaged in endless reorganizations that have revealed top management as clueless, incompetent, just playing corporate games, or a toxic mixture of all three.
    - It's a downer of a place to work now. Long-time employees are just hanging around hoping to get through the next cuts to get to 55, and newer employees are wondering why they came here or why they should stay.

    It's a place with good benefits and pay, but think twice before tying yourself long-term. Come in with a plan to get what you need, and be already working your plan to move on to something else when you come in. Most of your experience will be learning to follow J&J processes, not to think or to actually grow in your career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Stop pretending that people are important, that the Credo matters, or that J&J is different than anywhere else. It's obvious to anyone paying attention, and pretending otherwise just impacts your credibility.
    - What in the world are these reorganizations doing? We get the theory, but in reality it's just creating year-long turmoil, resulting in a demoralized and confused organization without really changing anything. This has really impacted your credibility and confidence in your competence, or that J&J can get it together.
