Pros

People really care. It's not like a company where you think about money money money. Everybody is super interested in world politics and economics. The morning meetings are really interesting. Most of the company comes to listen.

Cons

Not enough training outside of research. Not as much travel as I expected. It's hard to understand how to get a good promotion.

Job description seemed amazing on paper... and then I got here

    Pros

--Intellectual capacity of colleagues is quite high compared to the corporate world.
--Those who track 10 newspapers a day for fun can actually do that as a part of their job here.
--You interact and deliver on content and products that are unique to most global operating companies.

    Cons

--If you have ever worked in the real/corporate world, this is not it. It is a shop run by academics. Smart people rarely equal smart managers.
--This firm/management/culture of this place hates change. If you are someone looking to makes this company a faster, more efficient, and streamlined operation, do not join this firm. And btw, they may talk the talk (in your interview, in the quarterly meetings, etc.), but the actual empowering of change rarely occurs.
--The cliques and gossip in this place are a major detriment to implementing real growth and success.
--There is a high bar to pass into the “trust” zone here. It can get exhausting.
--There is little-to-no way you can build a technical skillset here (turnover here is higher than it is at the Big-4… says a lot).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

--Please bring in a cadre of human capital consultants. You need need need to train your Directors on how to be leaders, and not just brilliant analysts. That means teaching them how to grow staff, grow skill sets, and push analysts to new heights.
--Set standards and have a culture of accountability. In such a small firm like this, all of this has to emanate from the TOP down.
