Former Employee - Admissions Representative in Reseda, CA

I worked at Everest College full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Great benefits! The best health insurance.

Cons

Horrible pressure from the campus president to stick students in a program that they either do not want or won’t meet their career needs. All she cares about are the numbers, not the students.

Current Employee - Adjunct Instructor in Henderson, NV
Current Employee - Adjunct Instructor in Henderson, NV

I have been working at Everest College as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Most of the instructors are great people to work with

    Cons

They lie to adjunct instructors with promises of full-time employment, but do not deliver. This is a common practice at the campus in Henderson, NV. Opportunities for advancement is limited to "favorites" and these folks usually can't come close to meeting the requirements listed on the job advertisement. Further, job openings are advertised, but there really isn't an opening because they know who will be hired before the opening is advertised.
The current academic dean isn't educationally qualified to teach in college, yet he has been promoted in spite of the fact that he spent his first 3 years demeaning other instructors at every opportunity and is personally responsible for the loss of 2 well qualified, well liked instructors and 1 department chairperson who had been there longer than him.
Employees suddenly disappear on a fairly regular basis with no explanation. This has happened three times in the last two months. Policies and job duties are added and/or changed without adequate explanation.
Most of the students are from low income households and do not have the skills needed to succeed in college. Yet they are manipulated into paying a vert high tuition for a sub-standard education that many employers won't recognize. Instructors are required to be more like parole officers (keeping up with adult students) and are pressured to falsify attendance records and give passing grades to failing students in order to retain the students.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dear Management, If you want this campus/company to fail, don't change a thing. If you want it to succeed, serious changes need to be made. The environment needs to be one in which an employee can openly voice concerns without fear of losing their job. Second, appreciation is shown by giving a certificate or something similarly cheap. If you want to show appreciation, put the money on the check and when you promise an instructor (or anyone else) a full-time position, either keep your promise or look them in the eye and tell them it isn't going to happen and why. Lastly, stop playing favorites and promoting the worst people possible to positions they aren't qualified to be in.
