I have been working at Examiner newspapers part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Examiner university and similar resources, channel ownership (they provide a fairly legit stage for writers to strut their stuff), good place for a writer passionate about a topic or thing

    Cons

Very little pay, entirely reliant on self-motivation, company rewards for frequency of articles being published over all else not necessarily quality reporting or writing, no room for promotion, had issues with writers plagiarizing work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more for better work and writing. Pay more in general. Reward Examiners who consistently do well and/or better. Promote good writers to better paid positions.
