    Pros

The job location at VAN NUYS, CA was close to home. HR told me and many other incoming employees that people have worked here for over 30 years.

    Cons

Unethical management throughout the organization. Salary is typically 20% lower than similar positions at other aerospace companies in the Los Angeles area. Employees have received 'zero percent' raises recently. Massive layoffs in 2011 and rumor of additional layoffs for 2012. In general, most people at this location are very frustrated by unethical and unfair management. Expectation of excessive unpaid overtime for most salaried employees. Benefits are not exactly at par with similar aerospace companies in the region. Internal communications and work processes suffer greatly. Largely autocratic organizational structure. Exelis is going to great lengths to keep costs low for rumored buyout of the company.

    Advice to Management

Communicate openly with your employees. Don't expect employees to work excessive overtime without paying them. Employees need a quality work/life balance. Consider replacing the old-school, mostly autocratic managers. Embrace positive change.

Unless you were a Kodak employee, you will go nowhere at this firm

    Pros

it's a job. Perhaps in the engineering side of the firm, there would be good work and projects to do. But on the administrative side of the business, it is a very strange place to work.

    Cons

The firm is a former Kodak division and people are stuck complaining about the fact that the new management doesn't do things Kodak's way. On the administrative side of the business, people did one small piece of a project for years so that's all they know. They can't and won't look around at other aspects of their job, how they could improve things or themselves by even considering new ways of doing things. Most of the people in finance had high school diplomas and on the job training - few had either a associates or bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or even business.
