Pros

Let me think about the pros" none

Cons

This company is going down hill very quickly, they have lost a lot of good hard workers, why because of top management greed. but this loss not only is going to hurt employees is going to cripple the company. I called the 2012 no talented EXIT-LESS Company no where to go but DOWN.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get real treat the remaining employees good so some day you may not be at the unemployment office.

    Pros

Many smart people, some who have been there a long time.
Good technology and some very strong programs
Relatively few stovepipes although they're being rebuilt
Large number of up-and-coming talented professionals.

    Cons

Company is not adapting to the change in the defense industry well. It looks more reactive than proactive or strategic
Management sends high level strategic messaging to employees, but followthrough is desperately missing. Individual contributors are asking "what should I be doing?" Clear direction is missing.
In general, employees do not know where they stand, and many are on pins and needles
The watchwords "I am committed to your success" has gone out of style. Very sad. A lot of disspirited personnel walking the halls.
Culture appears to be in freefall.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Even in hard times, a company can have a sense of mission. Right now much of your workforce is confused, dissatisfied, and even resentful. There's no better time to re-establish the team's sense of mission than now. That means engagement, transparency and clear direction about what comes next, and what each member of the team can do.

I worked at Exelis full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Dedicated people.
Good communication between groups for some programs.
    Used to have good benefits.
Reasonable engineering tools to work with.

    Cons

Will take no risks. (Major problem!)
Does not complete product designs, only makes demo hardware.
Always changing to a new product before finishing the previous product.
Spending too many resources developing demos instead of sellable products.
Building too much useless hardware, building hardware that everyone knows how to build.
Building hardware before the system is defined. This parallel development is a disaster.
Always second or third to the market place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a plan together that makes sense using your your engineers in making the plan.
Let your engineers talk to customers and potential customers. Quite isolating them from the customer.
Train Marketing personnel in what your products can and cannot do. (Ask you engineers.)
Allow reasonable time for developing a new product. Work with customers on small future projects.
