I have been working at Exl Service as a contractor (less than an year)

Pros

My view is based on the experience I have had during interviewing, on-boarding and the initial projects:

An assessment of working for a consulting firm boils down to three things - integrity of people you work with interally, how closely your skills align with the services offered to clients, and the quality of clients the firm is able to attract.

1. The quality of the team is quite high. Unlike the profiles I often find at the big 4 and alike, here, you work with people displaying personal integrity and solid industry skills. This is something that is quite rare in consulting.

2. This is a growing firm and people tend to take ownership and run with things as opposed to being micro-managed. HR girls are sweet, young and motivated, more junior consultants are awake and inspired. This is refreshing and makes it easier to resolve most mundane questions.

3. Fortune 500 clients. Culture is such that consultants are not perceived as outsiders and work as a part of client' team on-site. Very organic and non-intrusive.

Cons

On the flip side you will find a young firm:
1. It is still quite ciloed and reactive.
2. The firm lacks cultural diversity across its US division.
3. Confusing titles/roles and poorly defined reporting structure.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an eye on the brand and positioning in the region.
Focus and expand sales strategy.
Review service offering, re-define and stay on top of the industry trends, while paying attention to the performance indicators.
Inovate.

    Pros

    The pay is decent for the work with bonus opportunities. There is a lot of down time. Great benefits, lots of PTO & sick days.

    Cons

    Little room for growth. Management is narrow minded and don't think outside of their previous company ways. Lots of restricition, little flexibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    With new, younger and more open minded management EXL could be a great place to work.

    Flexible schedule, good benefits, work-life balance.

    Cons

    Since the majority of the work comes on a client-related basis, the growth potential is non-existent. Salary very low for work being done.
