Pros

Most of the rank and file are decent & hardworking
Decent benefits & vacation plan
Good work life balance. Work area is mostly empty by 5pm.

Cons

* Too much of PM culture carried over from MSFT past. PM for every feature is ridiculous. Also they call them as TPMs, who have no clue that T means technical. Some PMs are anointed as demi gods which inflated their egos.Needless to say it creates a lot of bureaucracy. Not sure if this is a Seattle thing.
* Developer community is largely average at the best. Most of the good ones are marginalized or forced to leave.
* Archaic, monolithic platform which is horrible to work with.
* Pay is less compared to similar companies in the area.
* Old boy network where claim to fame is who knows who.
* Managers/PMs manage to manage themselves into promotions at rank and file expense.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's under standable that as a business company, that there are many PMs. But when you want to compete as a technology company, balance out the power to developers and empower them to take risks and innovate, not bogged down by the petty politics to satisfy some middle level managers ego and career ambitions. See Amazon or Silicon Valley companies (whom you are trying to become) and borrow the innovative culture. Better move fast or be a dinosaur in this fast moving space.
