Accounting at Expd, in general, pays little. Upper mgmt are uptight+difficult to approach. No options to grow.

I have been working at Expeditors

    Pros

-Free bus pass and no monthly health premiums
-$0.50 match for 401k (but not a huge match amount in total)
-40 hours a week only and stable

    Cons

-Strict dress code (slacks and tie everyday including FRI)
    -Slow growing management structure.
-Non approachable upper management (40+ year old males) who thinks you're stupid for asking questions
-12-20% lower in salary compared to industry standard
-Old fashioned on technology and cheap to employees. (No higher-end coffee for free nor snacks)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your stick out of your a$$es and be approachable so you can teach the younger generation how to perform FOR you instead of making them think they should quit.

    I worked at Expeditors

    Pros

    -few work overtime.
-depending on your role, failure to meeting goals has no consequence.
    -downtown location
-you get to play dress up everyday.
-you won't have to worry about keeping your skills up to date.
    -free bus pass
-health insurance is covered by employer (but your salary reflects this)

    Cons

    -No career growth
    -No mentoring or skill building
-Incompetent managers are in charge of delegating work.
-The majority of talented people leave within 3 years- management will just say "It's not for everybody!" - it apparently isn't for about 30% of the QA staff, the turnover rate is outrageous, yet the problem is always squarely pegged as a "bad hire".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rewards productivity and achievement, nuture growth and mentoring. Implement what outside consultants advised. Be more flexible with time off, increase vacations and make the salaries more competitive.
