No Chance in the Big Data Biz

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Experian Marketing Services full-time

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits. Lots of vacation time. Upper Management is good about sharing their high-level strategy with lower-level employees.

    Cons

Chronic under-staffing, absurd offshoring, cronyism, out-of-touch management.

Experian so desperately wants to avoid paying the high salaries commanded by skilled software developers and data scientists, that they'll try any crazy plan. Developers in Costa Rica and Malaysia aren't working out, neither is having a project manager for every 2 engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you don't like dealing with educated, expensive, PITA employees like software devs and data scientists, GET OUT OF THE BIG DATA BUSINESS! These are the ONLY people who can create value for you.

If you do decide to stay in the biz, create a merit-oriented environment where the people who contribute the most advance, not your friends and "old buddies".
