I have been working at Express

Pros

Fast paced and action packed. Express is a good place to work if you are straight out of college and looking to get your feet wet.

Cons

Technology at Express is pretty far behind. Compensation also lags behind that of other companies. Most of the management here is competent, but there are exceptions.

TERRIBLE JOB, only good for someone who doesn't mind NOT getting hours.

I have been working at Express

    Pros

    50% discount first time employee
and they give you another %50 discount once you complete training, but I and other employees still haven't received this.

Usually 30% off for employees (Only at the store you work at), but i don't care about the clothes

It's really fun helping out customers and such, etc.

    Cons

The managers adamentely DEMAND for you to push that stupid credit card, and you have to 100% attentive to customers at ALL times even if the customer doesn't even want your help.

You are practically HOUNDING the customers.
Be prepared to stay there 2 hours after the mall closes to fold clothes.
I would rather work at Hollister, I hear they have their own folders.

And you only get paid off of how much revenue the store makes, so in hindsight, if the store doesn't make much money then expect to have little to NO hours.
The only people who can get hours is the CLS...ugh.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would really appreciate if Express didn't hire an additional 20 sales associates for the holiday season when they can only afford to give each associate 2 days out of the week.

    I worked at Express

    Pros

Express loves to promote from within the company, which allows for eventual promotions if you are dedicated and looking to move up.
Management (within store) is very open and usually direct with one other.
    Great discount with full-time position.
Seen as a Management team member even though only titled with a 'Lead' position title.
Offered benefits and vested retirement accounts.

    Cons

Full Time Sales Lead positions are only paid hourly wages BUT are commonly given salaried manager duties and expectations.
    Job can be extremely stressful.
Must have dedication and passion for job, otherwise you can and will get tired of tasks, customers, and having to 'go green' when CSLing.
If you only have a few Managers within your store, there might not be much room for last minute or emergency schedule changes.
Aren't allowed to travel much during winter holiday months due to having to work important holiday days.
It takes much longer for pay and title advancement than expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If more is expected of an hourly sales lead, then they should be paid more.
Working at Express should be fun and management to make the job fun for the associates working there. And just as much as the associates should enjoy their job, Store managers should ensure their management team is content and happy with their jobs at all times.
