I worked at Express full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great discount. Growing brand. The clothing is easy to sell. The benefits are pretty comparable to most retail companies (for management only).

    Cons

The pay of the associates is not competitive so the turnover rate is extremely high. The work load is extensive and you typically spend more time "training" new hires than truly developing the associates that have been strictly out of loyalty. As a manager I was paid a decent salary and my benefits were sufficient. The amount of time I spent looking for and training young, under-paid associates was such a waste of time and it makes for a bad company reputation when you only have new hires who have no idea what they are doing manning your floors. Also, associates do not work off of commission so they aren't motivated to meet goals like the management team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Competitive pay. Lessen workload for associates if you are going to pay them dirt. Raise your wages or pay commission to those who perform well.

    Pros

Discount, music, compensation, innovative clothing and style, express next loyalty

    Cons

Micro managers, no work life balance, favoritism, long hours never expect to get off at your scheduled time, uneducated mgrs, no personality, robots, lazy, no team spirit,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rms,dm,ZVP's pulse check these stores and see what's really going on. And then you guys need one too, because you are the reason why we have these mgrs, and you run the good ones off

It starts with the top leaders down. The staff are treated terribly! Hence why there is so much turnover. You run your great mgrs off. If perhaps you are nasty, disrespectful, lazy, non inspiring and motivational, robotic with NO genuine personality, then this is the job for you. You'll do great! Express breeds these type of people. Great retail leaders with a mindset of their own don't do well at this company. This company will surely suck the life out of you! ,
