I worked at ExxonMobil

Pros

Benefits, talented people, if you rank good, the raises are increadible (can go up to 20%)

Cons

No work life balance
Poor vacation policy
No flex time
Expected ovetime, all the time. Finishing your job without working ovetime is not deemed as efficiency. They just give you more work to adjust to the same level of ovetime everyone else is working. 70 hours a week is GREAT performance! Even if 70 hours was due to incompetancy of the person.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recongize that the world has changed. New generation wants more flexibility and more time off work and other copanies are realizing that. We are not slackers, we just want more flexibility. Not everyone has a stay home wife, not everyone thinks kids are horriable obstacles in great life, not everyone's goal is to die making career.

    Pros

    Solid financials
    Long term view
    Many opportunities

    Cons

ExxonMobil is a solid company to work for, but be prepared to be satisfied with a career being pegged as "in the middle". The Ranking system is brutal and not understood by anyone.

I have been working at ExxonMobil

    Pros

This companies has many opportunities for you to broaden your experience and knowledge. Mostly engineering/science backgrounds start out at the bottom and work their way into the business and management areas or stay in the technical. Strong (and often times, obsessive) emphasis on employee health/safety and environmental awareness. Excellent training provided.

    Cons

As with many large companies there are many layers of bureaucracy. Lots of paperwork and red-tape to get things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication is great but would encourage further communication between management and employees at all levels. Invest in the young scientists and engineers and develop young talent quicker. The younger employees have more tools at their disposal to learn faster.
