Pros

Working with smart people is the best benefit. Additionally, the company does not skimp on international cross functional team and traveling to international locations to work with global counterparts is a huge plus. The maternity leave is very generous versus other companies as is the flexibility with unpaid leave and returning part time for a period.

Cons

No control / limited over your career as everything is done in secret and new positions can be foisted on you two days before you start them. Work life balance is scoffed at. Paternal leave is non existent and the gap makes female employees using the program look weaker. Moving from DC area to Houston.

Advice to Management

make job moves more transparent and move towards allowing employees to bid on jobs

I worked at ExxonMobil as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of varied work to gain experience quickly, pay is above average, has policies to promote from within so good opportunities to advance career

    Cons

High pressure, high stress environment. More of a competitive culture than collaborative. Work-life balance seemed really skewed towards work.

    Advice to Management

Promote a more collaborative work environment between engineers.

Good company if you're comfortable with office politics.

    Pros

Pay and benefits. Freedom to work when/where you want, as long as the business goals are achieved (within reason, of course).

    Cons

Much of the management are just promoted lead engineers, with poor leadership and people skills. Success as deemed by the company requires more than just simply doing a good or great job. EM uses a forced ranking system, so you often have to do things above and beyond to set yourself apart from your peers (perception).

Thanks for the feedback. Consistent, quality supervisor training is an initiative currently being worked in Human Resources.
