Pros

- Everyone around you is a creative genius in one form or another. Writers, designers, producers, editors, name it and they're somewhere in that building.

- Supportive staff.

- Coffee bar.

- Friendly people who enjoy what they do.

Cons

- Long hours.

- Pressured timelines.

Advice to Management

Continue to support the personal creative initiatives of your employees. Be more willing to give chances to younger employees straight out of school.

Felt like a library, not a creative department

    Pros

The agency had money to burn and time to kill. I'd get three weeks to revise a headline on some accounts. Luxury!

Need for bodies meant I worked on upwards of 5 accounts at the same time.

    Fantastic Traffic and Proofreading departments.

    Cons

Quiet and awkward vibe. Felt somewhere between working in a library and working in bank.

On many accounts, creative direction was often, "Just do it the way we did it last year."

Firings were large and frequent, making the agency feel like a work camp at times, leaving those of us remaining dumbstruck and just grateful to be employed.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the work, and the awards will follow. Not the other way around.

Probably still looks good on your resume, but that's about it.

    Pros

    Some coworkers are very talented.
A lot of paid time off.
Work hours are more than manageable, if you are competent.
    Small perks are given.
Salaries are OK in most departments, compared to other companies.

    Cons

    Absolutely no career path.
    Upper management is embarrassingly bad.
    HR department is completely untrustworthy.
It's never what you know, it's who you know.
You will never be given proper credit for things you contribute.
    New Business department is incompetent.
No follow through on any ideas or procedures. New things are introduced and then never heard of again.
Employees are bullied into voting Draftfcb as one of the best places to work, etc. but don't actually feel valued and employed by one of the best places to work.

    Advice to Management

A complete overhaul of management is needed or this agency is doomed. The incompetence of senior level executives (SVP level, mostly but also above SVP) has ruined this company. Turnover is excessive, even for an ad agency. There is no incentive for a talented person to stay more than a couple of years, due to lack of career path or rewards. Only the mediocre or worse would have reason to stay.
