Low organizational support with high trust meant lots of autonomy and personal growth

I worked at FHI 360 as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly work atmosphere, lots of opportunities for growth and personal initiative, recognizes complexities of global health programming

    Cons

Lots of red tape, many people to go through before approval or change is accomplished, seemed to have fairly high turnover, managers very busy

  2. Helpful (1)

Just OK - not a lot of room for growth and advancement

    Pros

Overall the staff is very friendly; pay is mediocre but healthcare/parking/transportation/403b (retirement) benefits are acceptable

    Cons

Very unorganized; internal communication significantly lacking; not a lot of room for growth and advancement and no clear path for doing so; program officers are treated as admin (secretaries and even personal assistants); work is repetitive and mindless of nature; job descriptions are so vague that it puts one in a position to have no boundaries with their job role; No professional development opportunities or educational assistance plans

    Advice to Management

HR needs to come up with a better system for advancement - maybe a series of objectives or goals one must meet in order to be considered for a promotion/advancement; Also, the internal communication problems are in critical need of attention
