Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Company at least gives lip service to treating their employees well. Benefits offered are good compared to other industries (but sub-par compared to the financial services industry). Retirement benefits are the exception, as the match is generous and early retirement packages are offered regularly. Jobs here are a good springboard to better jobs with member firms. Great place to gain knowledge and experience, but frustrating after you have been here awhile.

    Cons

If you don't work for the ROOR group in NYC, or HQ in Rocville/D.C. you are treated like a second class citizen. The Chicago office is especially bad since the effects are compounded by inept management who resists change and treats their employees like they are incapable children who know nothing. Bonuses, raises and promotions are given based on time put in, not on merit. Management only wants to hear what you have to say if you agree with them, and innovation is stifled.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your policies make it where those who want to do only the bare minimum stick around and everyone else leaves. Challenge the status quo when necessary, stick up for your employees, and reward those who actually strive to go above and beyond. Bring your ideas on management and the industry into the 21st century, and treat your employees like professional adults instead of treating them like inept children.

Interesting work. Co-workers very nice. Felt as if I was making an impact on industry.

    Cons

Managers have no people skills and only care about statistics. Micromanage subordinates.
