I have been working at Facebook full-time (More than a year)

Pros

- Fast paced learning - Freedom to work on what interests you - You can make big impact - Everything based on merit and performance, no politics - openness in culture - perks are awesome

Cons

- learning might get skewed towards internal tools, FB-specific libraries of popular languages, etc - a little chance of learning about the complete stack, more likely to work on a particular component of a bigger project/product

I worked at Facebook as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free food, no dress code, downtown location, smart peers, young and fresh as you would expect

    Cons

treated as a second class citizen, subhuman compared to full time employees, ignored, excluded from team, no potential for career advancement

    Advice to Management

Stop contracting. If you are going to continue to, then just move them all offsite, or in a dark room away from everyone else. At least that one, they will think you treat everyone like that. Its basically slave labor for you, and you would honestly do better to just ask for volunteers if you don't plan on hiring the position full time. At least a volunteer signed up for the abuse. I cannot think of a more demoralizing environment than the one you subject your contractors to.

I worked at Facebook as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    * Lots of access to intelligent, experienced FTEs * Great benefits, including shuttles to work, daily meals, and free laundry service * Very open culture, with a lot of trust given to new employees and interns alike * Able to innovate and have impact regardless of tenure or position

    Cons

    * Interns mostly stick to their team, so for internships which team you get can be very crucial in defining your experience. This can be make or break for some interns, since some teams have unreasonable expectations or just don't mesh well with their interns. * At least one other intern I knew complained that some teams seemed "easier" in terms of receiving a full time offer than others.
