I worked at Facebook full-time (more than an year)

Pros

College campus type atmosphere; sometimes you don't even feel like you are at work.
Food, and lots of it.
There are some really terrific people who work here.
IT needs are very easy to get handled and the vending machines are a huge plus.
Good benefits package.

Cons

Constant re-orgs and changing priorities can make it hard to keep up.
Glaring differences between good managers and bad managers.
No work/life balance; long hours; must work a lot just to stay afloat; difficult for those with families and/or small children.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers should take more time to make sure their people are not dying a slow death due to the pace. More encouragement and time for training or personal growth.

I worked at Facebook as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The brand name of Facebook carries some power. Also the offices are nice except for the lack of AC in the area I was in.

    Cons

For lower level employees, Facebook doesn't care about you in terms of salary and is ready to cancel you contract at any time. My contract was canceled for money problems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the lower level employees feel valued and have opportunities for personal growth.

I have been working at Facebook full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The biggest problem with working for Facebook is showing up to work every day (well, not every day since the work-from-home policy is pretty liberal) and thinking, "Man, this must be a bubble. I mean, there's a bouncy house, 10 scotch bars, and they're roasting a pig in Hacker Square."

But, if you can stand that, the rest is great.

    Cons

Gotta be REALLY careful with data. Despite what you see on Facebook, there is nothing that Facebook is more concerned about than protecting its users' data. People "disappear" from time to time, and the reason is usually that someone *&(^ed up and did something with data that they shouldn't have, whether accidentally or intentionally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Careful with the B-School BS. Let's keep it a no-nonsense, engineering-focused company. Stop using the (non)word, "learnings." Squash any hint of bureaucracy.
