  1. Well, it is better than waiting on tables...

I have been working at Fairfax County Public Schools

    Pros

Yet, like waiting on tables...you eventually move on to something better.

    Cons

Conundrum: When applying for position FCPS states --Supports FCPS mission to "inspire, enable, and empower students to meet high academic standards, lead ethical lives, and demonstrate responsible citizenship."
Yet, how come you ask teachers to do many unethical things like focusing on everything but creating inspiring lessons? You have teachers so busy with minutia and "data entry" that only the most seasoned teachers know the difference.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember where you came from. Have some integrity and backbone.

  2. Overall Fairfax County is a great place to work

I worked at Fairfax County Public Schools full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Technological resources are wonderful, the technical training opportunities and supports you receive as an employee are outstanding. Benefits are also excellent.

    Cons

Tuition reimbursement for teachers pursuing masters or doctorate degrees could be improved. Some administrators are only working on their second retirement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When an administrator only has three years of actual teaching experience, they really do not have the knowledge and skills to be an effective administrator. Require all assistant principals and principals to have at least five years of teaching experience and have them be better mentored.
