I have been working at Falcon Transport full-time for more than a year

Pros

Home everyday and Weekends. They have lots of dedicated routes they run Monday thru Friday.

Cons

Driver pay is typical of Northeast Ohio, low. They pay by the day instead of the mile. Your average mileage pay is 0.5 cpm. when you divide the pay. When you divide your pay by the hour it is around 7.75 per hour. The equipment is very old and always needs repair.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend money on new equipment and better pay for drivers. Drivers can make more pay working at McDonalds than on some routes.

I have been working at Falcon Transport full-time

    Pros

Most of your coworkers are good people and it does help make the day more enjoyable.
A couple of low level managers do work hard to make you feel like you feel appreciated and are an asset to your department.

    Cons

Saturdays are required with no extra pay unless you work more than 1/2 a day.

There is a constant revolving door; from operations management, dispatch and driver positions. I've seen 4 Directors of Operations leave in the last 4 years!

Never know what "mood" senior/executive management will be in, changes hourly some days. Keep your head down and pray you don’t get noticed mentality for a lot of people around me.
Not a good environment to voice your opinion without fear of repercussions.

There is no room to grow, only a lateral move.

Pay is below industry standards; with the job market in this area you have little choice when it comes to paying your bills and feeding your family unless you’re willing to commute more than 45 minutes one way. Falcon takes full advantage of this and will offer you as little as possible with no annual raises for employees for many years now.

From operations to office staff, everyone is replaceable and no one is overworked in management's opinion. If something gets overlooked because there are not enough hours in the day, it will always be the employee's fault, never that they have too much to do.

Falcon will never care about your personal life, so don’t bother going there. If you want to take time off be prepared for an attitude; you almost feel pressured that you will lose your job for taking the time off you’ve earned.

There is an awful lot of office "gossip and politics".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It doesn't hurt to tell your employees they do a good job. Allow them to have a voice without fear of losing their job in a couple of days or weeks down the road. If you are going to ask your employees to work hard for you, they should feel like you are working hard for them. While drivers are an asset to the company, so are the people sitting in the room directing them or sending invoices out to the customers. Providing pizza or burgers a couple times a year isn’t really an effect “attaboy/girl”.

How about a basic cost of living pay raise each year?

People should look forward to coming to work and enjoy doing their job. It's hard to do that when you feel like most of management sees you as replaceable. Believe it or not, making people fear they will lose their jobs isn’t the answer.
