I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great insurance, reasonable expectations of management hours.

    Cons

Family Dollar has no monitoring of DM's and are so concerned with employee theft that they deny all customer theft. The better you make your DM look, the less they treat you well. There is never positive acknowledgement of sales increases, The two stores I managed for them posted increased sales and decreased controllable expenses every year. No one ever acknowledged the accomplishment. Hourly associates are underpaid and overworked and constantly subjected to suspicion of theft.

    Advice to Management

Regional VP's need to keep a MUCH closer eye on DM's and their adherence to policy. I do not understand why store managers in one district were REQUIRED to submit the name of an associate they suspected of theft. Managing from a desk is wonderful for you, bad for the company. If you want less theft, put your stores in better neighborhoods.
