OK place. Inefficient. Technology is joke. Tour before accepting job.

I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Employees are not the sharpest pencils in the box, so it's pretty easy to do OK.

Cons

Retail, so investment in corporate office is non-existent. Business is unchanged in 50 years. Technology not leveraged. Only change was caused by a hostile buyout attempt. The result, a layoff to cut costs. Since the business is discount retail, the real test will be when the economy improves. With a few female exceptions, management is all men, all white.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

They are so disconnected, and definitely not listening, so advice is useless.

I have been working at Family Dollar Stores

    Pros

It is a job, and a lot of people don't have one.

    Cons

alone in store 90 percent of time
    very little customer service
5.5 days and 52 hour workweek required
Company refuses to turn parking lot lights or heat-air on before half hour before store open
very little hours given to operate store

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come into the 21st century. We are not depression workers and we do have a life outside of work. If you made your managers feel like you cared for them the turnover problem would be over. You proclaim in and out service but with one person in the store 90 percent of the time customer service just cant happen. Treat your managers like managers and not worker bees.
