I have been working at Family Dollar Stores part-time (less than an year)

Pros

The manger at the store is very helpful in guiding her employees. Gives of herself to the store no matter what is going on her life. A very depenbable person.

Cons

The company will not give hours and the manger has to give up vacation time just to be able to give employee hours.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

get rid of employees who can not keep up the pace in unloading trucks. There are some that work and can not bend over and will not do recovery and push things forward on the bottom shelves.

I worked at Family Dollar Stores full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Salary, Paid Time Off, Flexibility

    Cons

Very poor Upper Management structure and lack of understanding of what "actually" happens at the Store level. It is a very tight "Good Ole' Boy" network and individuals with valid opinions and ideas are often targeted for dismissal. Upper Management has a culture of protecting themselves at all cost, and will terminate subordinates as a gesture to Corporate that they are in control and to ease the potential that the Upper Manager's job will be in jeopardy. Stores maintain very unsafe working conditions, and again suggestions for improvements fall on deaf ears with Upper Management and Corporate Officers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some actual time working in the Stores versus spending a few minutes during visits to a Store. Work some nights and weekends, especially in the Urban locations to fully understand what it is like to be a Family Dollar employee.
