Fannie Mae Senior Developer in Washington, DC:   (Current Employee)

Pros

The company offers very good benefits and work/life balance, although benefits have been regularly trimmed down.
The company has multiple locations in the DC area so you can work in a location that's convenient to you most of the time.

Cons

No apparent difference between compensation for top performers and average ones. The company basically provides very good benefits across the board (see above) but has a harder time to reward individual performance.
Used to have very compelling benefits (like full education assistance) that got canceled.

Advice to Senior Management

Rethink performance management

by Senior Financial Analyst:

Company is going to be severely downsized in April or so after second installment of retention bonuses are paid. The future is some sort of very regulated insurance company with government level compensation (no bonuses) and private sector job security (none). Smartest people are leaving in droves, the rest will follow when economy improves in year or so. Fannie Mae is going to become a destination for second level grads of second grades schools.
