I have been working at Fashion Institute

Pros

Modern campus, modern equipment, knowledgeable instructors, unique alternative to standard university, wonderful holiday party for employees.

Cons

There is no HR thus every department answers to itself leading to chaos, competition, and lack of overall leadership. Politics, for sure- promotions are given secretly, and everyone in power is either married or related to each other. If you aren't in with them, you simply will spin your wheels in your position. The oldtimers who run the place are out of touch with balancing education with business, and do not have the management skills to run the school. It's a Monet- beautiful from a distance, mess up close.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build an HR department- it's obvious and necessary. Accountability is lacking, and when a wrong is done, it is not dealt with for the greater good of the school and its students. Departments do not work together- security, maintenance, college services, etc. Seek input from not only instructors but staff to implement changes. There is a reason why unless you have been here 20 years+, you leave in less than 5.

I have been working at Fashion Institute

    Pros

    Great people
    Hard working and dedicated staff
    Technology is bleeding edge
Make your own destiny is encouraged
Turns on a dime (can be good and bad)

    Cons

    Micro managment
All are not held accountable equally
Quick decisions based on politics and often skewed by squeeky wheels needs a sympton of poor planning
A few persons do the majority of the work
Time and attendance is critical on making up time but not cognizant on compensating for overtime

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Evalutate the issues and address the specifics/persons.
Foster the skills of individuals person by person
Make decisions based on logic not emotion
