I worked at Fashion Institute of Technology

    Pros

Excellent benefits, salary increases, educational opportunities, and an inspiring environment.

    Cons

Hugely bureaucratic, a lot of red tape, and politics play into everything. Can be pretty disorganized and therefor frustrating.

  2.

    Culture of mediocrity

I have been working at Fashion Institute of Technology full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are good and get better the more years you serve (short hours during winter break, etc.). Most people are friendly. The union rules ensure job security and you become a tenured staff member after 3 years. 35 hour work week and no pressure to stay after 5.

    Cons

Everyone is devoted to the hierarchy, and talking to someone more than 1 step above or below you is frowned upon. Department heads tend to be overly protective of their office and don't like anyone trying to impose on them or their staff. There are no repercussions when managers behave badly. Once you become a tenured staff member it takes a lot to get fired; there are a number of people on-campus who are known for being do-nothings. Too many meetings that accomplish nothing. Gross restrooms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This place needs some serious housecleaning at the administrative level. Departments are getting reorganized all the time, indicating that nobody at the top really knows what they want. It is all politics.
