Former Employee - Part Time Package Handler in North Salt Lake, UT
Former Employee - Part Time Package Handler in North Salt Lake, UT

I worked at FedEx Ground part-time (less than an year)

Pros

Great benefits if you work there long enough, predictable hours, ability to move within company. Training is thorough and safety is first priority. I'm not what you might imagine as someone capable of being a package handler, but everyone was welcoming and I didn't feel out of place.

Cons

Physically intense, high stress, solitary work. Getting time off is tricky and pretty much everything is an unexcused absence. Sometimes doing a good job means picking up other employee's slack and staying later.

I have been working at FedEx Ground full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Should still be a couple years before the company is completely run into the ground. So everyone still has time to get out.

    Cons

In the last six months the CEO and two of six RVP's have left. The Ground Segment has driven the companies overall results in recent years but the future now seems unstable at best. The company has re-structured the Safety department all but stripping it to the bare bones. Changes have also been made in the Contractor Resources and Contractor Relations department, cutting jobs of course. The best employees are run into the ground while under performers are protected for fear of litigation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management claims a "People First" mentality...actually live this. It's only a matter of time before employees stop drinking the kool aid and realize that this organization is anything but people first. I know I have and I'm looking for other employment ASAP.
