Former Employee - (IT Was In the Sales Department) in Dallas, TX

I worked at FedEx Office full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

* nice office environment at the Galleria in Dallas
* opportunity to meet and work with a wide range of people in many different departments
* decent pay scale at least from my perspective as a salaried employee
* emphasis on balance of work and home life; offices are pretty empty by 5-5:30pm

Cons

* traffic can be a nightmare from any direction!
* promotions/advancements can seem political (more who you know than what you know)
* difficult and sometimes incompetent people are moved to other teams instead of let go
* stodgy leadership cannot wrap their collective heads around telecommuting even though certain teams have proven their ability to do this (i.e. keeping their teams up and running during a snowstorm that closed the main office); for a fairly high tech company, they are decidely behind the times in this area

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Embrace telecommuting - find a way to make it work instead of crowding more and more people into less and less space.

I have been working at FedEx Office full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - plenty of OTJ training with a wide variety of software and office machinery
    - high paced face to face atmosphere with customers is great for building customer service

    Cons

    - not much room for growth; glass ceiling is REAL here
    - you will rarely catch a manager who knows anything outside of back office operations
    - very low pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to solidify yourself. Stop being fragile as a company.
