I worked at FedEx Office full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

The best thing about this job is the job security (depending on your pay/hr & position) and definitely the benefits. You really get to learn how to work the computer software and you learn how to deal with customers. The training is really good because it's hands on and computer simulated. The vacation time is really awesome along with most of the crew you work with. FedEx Office is a good place for those who are in college or that is single with no kids to raise, but is ok if you do have a family as long as there is a second income in your household.

Cons

The worst thing is there is barely no advancement within the company unless you can suck up really well. They don't care about your hard work barely, they just care about the POM's and the SQI's. Management is ok depending on who the manager is. Some managers suck horrilbly and some can be of real help and a good mentor. The customers are horrible and very rude most of the time because they feel that what you do isn't important and that all you do is press a button. But don't get it wrong, there are some nice customers, some that'll even stand up for you if you're being done wrong. It's just that there a very few of them that you'll interact with. The FedEx side of things is even more ridiculous because customers seem to be dumb when you tell them that FedEx has picked up for the day (even with the signs posted) and they argue with you about needing to get a package to a destination when it's 1:00am at night.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most of you started on the production floor and know what it's like to be just an employee struggling with management. Don't get big headed and think you're better because you're an assist. manager, center manager or district manager. A lot of you become lazy and more trouble for production and the rest of the store than what's called for. If this is the case, quit your jobs and go home and let the productive be productive and stop complaining. As for the dispatch team for the delivery drivers and the managers at the CPC, stop being rude to your people and listen to what they have to say. It could really benefit the company if you could stop being a bully and everything inbetween if you would just listen and stop thinking you know everything.

    Decent salary, promote from within approach, good benefits

    Cons

    Incentives became near impossible to achieve, lost focus on people aspects, failure to provide sufficient staffing, rank and spank approach - overly focused on the metrics and not driving the right behaviors to generate the results

    Don't forget about the people (front line managers and associates) - they are the ones who drive the business

    Pros

    I love the benefits and the learning opportunities. I also like the fact that there is room to move up in the company.

    Cons

    The main challenge of working there is getting along with disrespectful team members. There is also a severe lack of uniformity across the board pertaining to company policy.

    I believe that you should be more selective with your employees and enforce the policies and rules more strictly.
