I worked at FedEx part-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Lots of flexibility on hours, relocation, and promotion. Generally good people and a world-class service brand. I had worked for the "major competitor" for many years, and found the FedEx workplace and culture to be much more open and motivated.

Cons

Work ethic tends to be somewhat lax. Customer service is given a lot of lip service, but many employees and managers find excuses to cut corners at the expense of the customer. Training is somewhat lax, and employee performance could be improved if methods and accountability were of a higher standard. But again, I came from "the Other Company" where standards were higher.... The best employees at FedEx are those who are self-directed and have high personal standards. Management won't hold you to high standards unless they themselves have them.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop promoting incompetent buffoons who can't even do the basics. Set a higher bar for management candidates, and then train them well. You are only as good as your leadership, and when your service providers are smarter than their managers things don't go well for your paying customers.

Former Contractor - Senior Network Engineer in Plano, TX

I worked at FedEx as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Good Working Environment for employee's, deep pockets for their network so working with the latest equipment on the market. Management works with their employee's for their own personal problems and create an environment that employee's want to work in. Many long term employee's that don't leave and move up the chain of command.

    Cons

Typical large enterprise environment where you only work on a limited part of the network instead of working on many various projects. Hiring freeze now lasting over two years, this with employee's not leaving make it hard to get hired in directly.
