Pros

It is like being part of a professional sports team at FedEx Ground. Management doesn't force too much down your way, but you are an essential cog of the wheel. It is an easy job to get, but it takes art and strength to keep it past even the trial period. If you get good and do it correctly, it is a great exercise.

Cons

The primary position requires that you scan 300 barcodes an hour and lift 70 lbs. quite regularly and if you can't take that you will not be around long. Most people actually do make it. There are sirens and the constant noise of the conveyor, earplugs might save the valuable hairs of your inner ear.

Advice to Management

Always be innovating worker safety. Some things that seem annoying over a short period of time could reek havoc after 5 or 10 years. It is hard to work 12-4am, and one time we had leftovers from a barbeque on 6-10pm shift. I'll add that it is hard to have a social life on that shift and it would be better to feed us and get us a little more accustomed to the night shift with a provided quick and variatable "dinner" before each shift.

    Pros

Days are reasonable and not much overtime.

    Cons

Much back stabbing, squabbling, management is not trained to handle it. They will not hire smarter people than they think they are. Most have little experience

    Advice to Management

    Get trained

    Pros

Lovely work campus, with good cafeteria and health facilities. Some very nice people. Handy location.

    Cons

Sadly, the culture includes... - A lack of respect for people - it encourages frequent interruptions, skipping meetings without notice, round the clock access and working - Us vs. Them mentality. Employees and contractors. IT and business. One manager's team and a different manager's team. Etc. - Retaining poor talent and not developing people. Inability to use basic tools (e.g., Outlook), to follow standard processes, to follow up actions by the agreed date are the norm. Some folks seem to be just marking time until retirement. - Leadership that focuses on their fiefdoms rather than on what's best for the company as a whole. - Inconsistency - ever changing expectations and lack of direction. as in a manager makes a decision and 2 hours or 2 days later changes it... And as in project A is a priority because the VP wants it to happen - but the only time anyone works on it is five minutes before the VP update meeting... - Poor communication - both from management down and amongst peers. - Focus on firefighting / squeaky wheels - Only some of the materials and equipment needed to do the job... Key software and training are not available to everyone. So you might be assigned work, and then not given the software needed to complete it. - Mismatch of people's skills and work assignments - which make it difficult for people to excel. Work is assigned arbitrarily, and not based on what a person wants to do, what they are good at doing, or where they might need to grow and develop, - Self-promotion and recognition for basic work - almost to the extent that folks can no longer recognize stellar performance. - Acceptance of poor quality work. Some folks laugh off mistakes found later... Yet, at the same time additional processes are created to improve quality - but they are not done well and create obstacles without adding benefits. - And, of course, cronyism. Projects are prioritized based on friendships / alliances. Promotions too in at least some cases.

    Advice to Management

Take a good hard look at the state of the organization, and make some real changes to improve it. Costs could be reduced - and employee morale and engagement boosted.
