Current Employee - Package Handler in Memphis, TN
Current Employee - Package Handler in Memphis, TN

I have been working at FedEx part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Loads of benefits once hired (discounts, tuition assistance credit union, discounted gym membership), and even more after 90 days. They also do all that they can to make sure you correct your misbehavior with some exceptions, and they offer classes that can qualify you to go further within the company or even elsewhere. Very progressive and fair. You're also effectively getting paid to work out. The time goes by pretty quick because of how fast paced it can be, but the work usually comes in bursts, so you'll have time to breathe.

They also do all they can to protect you. You'll always get ear protection and footwear by default, and if you ask your manager for some like gloves or a back brace, they will try their best to get you one.

    Cons

Handler job is demanding, and the intensity of the workout you get from it depends on where you're assigned to. Outbound handlers and non-conveyable handlers will get the brunt of the work as they have to load up a lot of packages on time and sometimes deal with packages that are unusually large or heavy. You also have no clue when you'll be able to clock out, especially during Mondays and the last half of the week. Sometimes it will be 2am. Others it will be 4am. Holidays will probably wind up ending at 5am.
