I have been working at Federal Government full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Since it isn't a contract job, no worries form year to year if you will have a job.

    Cons

Not is to move up the ranks. Good old boy network still. Have to take too much training that isn't related to your job. Not enough money to take classroom training that is job related.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to do a better job on mentoring the ranks and preparing to take the next step in their career.

I have been working at Federal Government full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedules- good for working moms
    Increasing vacation time with experience
    Retirement plan matching
    Stable

    Cons

    Low salary
    Difficult to advance
    Unambitious coworkers
    Many positions are very stressful

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In order to keep exceptional employees, there should be opportunities for advancement that are not simply based on the number of years at the job. There should also be more flexibility in movement to areas that are better suited to the employee. Preventing an employee from getting another position just because it is at the same grade level is discouraging and hinders employee growth.
