I have been working at Federal Government full-time for more than a year

Pros

Multitude of opportunities for military service experience; Armed Forces veterans receive high priority over other equally qualified non vet applicants. Vets can apply for many positions through non-competitive service positions

Cons

Fiscal cliff and budget cut issues have slowed down new employment hiring and caused lay offs/furloughs.
It takes an extensive amount of time for many agencies to contact applicants on employment certificates for interviews/position updates

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to take no more than 4 months scheduling candidates listed on eligible certificates for interviews. If the process is lengthy it would be a great practice to remain in contact with candidates regarding the interview process.

Neutral Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Federal Government full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

You have a great mission to support and your co-workers are very dedicated. The work itself is very interesting and challenging. There is a lot of opportunity for growth and development if you are willing to move from one agency to another to broaden your horizons.

    Cons

Politics impact your worklife and public opinion is not very high when it comes to the federal employee. Benefits are very good but constantly under attack as budget cuts become a reality. There are no more bonus or cost of living increases for the near future. Training will likely be decreased in light of budget reductions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to fight for your workforce and lobby Congress to make the right decisions.

    Cons

If there is financial trouble with the government's budget, this could complicate your income levels and work schedule.
