I worked at Federal Government

Pros

If one is selected, the promotional opportunities are great. Benefits are excellent, travel opportunities are there, positions are endless (availability to apply around the world).

Cons

Hard to enter into the Federal Government jobs. Although posted, most individuals are pre-selected by the hiring personnel.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's important to select the most qualified individual versus pre-selecting individuals. I recently attended an OPM resume writing course and the individual instructing the class explained what many governmental hiring personnel do when the individual they had in mind does not pass the pre-selection.

    Pros

paid time off, marignal salary, good retirement plan

    Cons

political appointees, micro management, lack of decision making by management, fear of making a decision by management, failure of political appointees in leadership positions to take accountability and ownership of their respective responsibilities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

if we must have political appointees in leadership postions, require mandatory leadership training that must be completed and considered by congressional oversight committees prior to approval
