Pros

I worked in the research department of the NY Fed. Enjoyed the job quite a bit. Interesting work, very reasonable hours. The work felt like it contributed to meaningful decisions. Benefits were great (tuition reimbursement, subsidized meals, etc.).

Cons

Not much room to grow at the current position. Not really the fault of the company, just the nature of the job.

    Cons

Must have advanced degree (PHD, Master's) to advance career. Very structured and risk adverse culture.

    Pros

If you like to follow instructions, can speak Fedease, and essentially fill in boxes this is the place for you.

    Cons

If you like to think for yourself, value creativity and really care about contributing to the safety and soundness of the financial system, then this is not the place for you. If you're really smart, go work in academia and stay as an outsider, this institution is a political monster, where the intellectually mediocre, yet politically astute, and good at the art of the BS get promoted. When you see who the people entrusted by us to make policy are, you will cry, for days, day and night.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You know you're incompentent, so you need to hide firmly behind a veil of secrecy, least the public finds out the emperor has no clothes and is in fact a klown.
