Pros

Great compensation package when you look at full compensation, not just raw salary numbers. Computer systems are very advanced and well suited for getting our work done.

Cons

Not very close to downtown. Cafeteria is VERY expensive. Most days it is less expensive to walk down to McDonalds or Wendys rather than eat in the cafeteria. Centralized IT, takes forever to get anything done by IT because of all the project planning and regulatory oversight.

I have been working at Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City

    Pros

Great people to work with and in some areas exposure to interesting things.

    Cons

Weird management structure - supervisors are way too young and put over areas that they have no expertise in. Lots of layers in getting something approved or reviewed - you submit a memo for review and it gets reviewed 8 times and edits are requested for minor things - not a very efficient place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire experienced management to lead areas they are experts in.

Strong place to develop a career, but work/life balance needs improvement.

I have been working at Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City

    Pros

    Good benefits
Mediocre to good pay (but not as good as other financial regulators)
    Strong middle management

    Cons

Work/life balance needs to catch up with the times, allowing those that have the ability to work from home to do so. Flexible work arrangements are also a necessity and provided in some roles but not others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would advise those making personnel/managerial decisions for the bank to use better judgement when assessing work/life balance. Allow those that have the ability to work from home to do so. Other government agencies do it, why shouldn't the Federal Reserve Bank? Furthermore, salaries need to be more reflective of the competitive environment. It seems that both private and public sectors pay at least marginally better than the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.
