Current Employee - Assistant Props Master in Palmetto, FL

Pros

To get your foot in the touring theater. They will indeed hire you straight out of college. You can travel the world on their dime. As long as you are decently competent they will keep you around.

Cons

Be prepared for the full touring experience. There is no such thing as "time off". It is all company time. The pay isn't horrible, but not quite as good as some other touring companies for the amount of work you will put in. If you are traveling out of the U.S. be prepared for the dismal exchange rate from dollars to whatever currency you will be using for that week.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management should very carefully watch the lower rungs of the company. They lose a lot of very talented professionals by promoting solely based on years with the company. Often enough years with the company did not translate to best work ethic, skills, or knowledge base.

No opinion of CEO

    Pros

traveled to a new city almost every week, free housing and the opportunity to work with people from all over the world

    Cons

This company is the "Peter Principle" at work. In a five year period I saw almost every upper management position filled by someone who was not qualified to do the job. Managers would not show up for work or answer their cell phones, leaving employees with no leadership. Training and orientation are non-existent, My "forklift training" consisted of a full 5 minutes with an outside contractor who happened to be on property and I was given a form and told "sign this, it says you watched a movie and were given a driving test". Hard work and long hours are not appreciated, they are demanded and you are not given the tools you need to do your job. Complaints to HR are not taken seriously and will be used against you. HR managers and upper management visiting the unit will belittle and degrade managers to their employees making it hard for managers to maintain respect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because your friend wants a job does not mean he is qualified to do it. Take a serious look at your HR dept., some of them are grossly inappropriate in what they share with crew members.
