I have been working at Ferguson Enterprises

Pros

My experience at Ferguson was great! I worked in 3 different locations across the country and had a great experience in all 3. If you are wanting to work hard and learn it was the perfect environment. Hard work was rewarded with opportunities to take on more responsibility. Also if you were happy with your current position you were valued highly for your ability to perform that job.

Cons

It is a long work week and the salaries and payout for the time put in did not match.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue your management trainee program....I still pull from lessons learned during my career at Ferguson that give me a leg up in every situation.

I have been working at Ferguson Enterprises

    Pros

The company offers a competive salary. There is also a lot of room for progress within the company. The company also does a good job at taking care of its employees.

    Cons

Ferguson will work you pretty hard. Be prepared for ten hour days. It is also very though work and can be very stressful. Ferguson also does not do a good job at training its employees.

Not a bad place to start a career

I have been working at Ferguson Enterprises

    Pros

-Decent starting salary out of college.
-Good (but very expensive) benefit package.
-Opportunity to learn a lot if you're placed in a small branch to start.
    -Satellite branches are very laid-back.
-The company cut a lot of fat during the height of the recession, which means that the remaining employees have decent job security.
    -Sales positions aren't high-pressure.
-Company seems to hire good people.

    Cons

-Very difficult to grow and advance with the company if you don't work at or near a main branch.
-Mid-level management is always trying to out-think themselves, which makes it difficult for employees to service customers effectively.
-Huge disconnect between the corporate/administrative levels and branch level.
-Branch managers aren't given the power to run their stores as they see fit. Main branches want everything done a certain way even though every market is different.
-Very long work weeks (45+ hours) for non-management employees. A typical work day is 6 or 7 AM to 5 PM for everyone except drivers
-9 or 10 hour work days are required for most hourly positions, but when you take a vacation day or sick day, you only get paid for 8 hours. Makes it hard to take an extended vacation if you're on a tight budget.
-Technology is 25 years behind the times (the company still uses dot matrix ribbon printers).
-Lots of flaws when it comes to inventory management. Physical inventory process is very painstaking.
-Management is hesitant to get rid of lazy employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upgrade technology, do more to keep your young talent, increase the hourly rate you pay associates so it isn't necessary to work 5-10 hours of overtime to achieve salary, and give branch managers the ability to run their stores as they see fit.
