I worked at Fidelity Investments full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Friendly work environment. Many very nice and noble people. Good pay (unimpresive base salary but high bonus + profit sharing + ...) Company greatly values my job and return with great reward. Company cares about employees' life-work balance and career advancement.. Great opportunity to work with financial aspect and with financial and business people. When they layoff people due to business decision they inform several months ahead and then provide nice package. They also allow laid off people to stay in office and use their work computer for weeks to look for jobs. I guess they trust laid off people won't do any harm to company because company treat them very reasonably. Ted John is a very sensible person.

Cons

There are a lot overhead, although all people work very very hard, the outcome is not as much.

Advice to Management

Management did I great job.

I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits. Beautiful campus.

    Cons

Management skills are not measured or appreciated. Position is more often political and based on who you know rather than qualifications. Mismanagement has resulted in a entirely dysfunctional IT organization that is hobbled by a bizarre anti Microsoft sentiment that is supposedly present at the highest levels. Company spends millions trying to integrate mismatched solutions rather than just adopting any single vendor. Used to be a technology leader but is currently technology schizophrenic. This company also used to develop its management leaders internally, those days have seemingly ended with recent management additions brought in form various other Wall Street firms.

    Advice to Management

Implement management quality metrics and start eliminating management dead wood. Start promoting longtime employees who really understand the problems inherent to Fidelity's current culture. Also, Ned is obviously in age related decline (physically and mentally), its time.....

Highly secretive organization that watches your every move.

I worked at Fidelity Investments full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Incredible benefits and pay. Generous paid time off. Opportunity to grow your career is very good if you get out of call centers.

    Cons

Incredibly micromanaged, you are literally a number. Lack of any real diversity at the top. Out of touch managment in Boston. Nepotism at its finest at the most senior level of the company.

    Advice to Management

Promote based on results, not personality. Encourage education, don't discourage it. Bring in new blood and make the lines of communication less military like to promote more open diaglogue.
