I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great office facilities. Good benefits. A pro and a con, the office is empty at 5pm, literally. Good if you've got kids, bad if you're a workaholic. The company belongs to the Johnson family so you don't have the "make the quarter numbers or bust" attitude you'll find at publicly traded firms.

Cons

Sparse vacation, only 15 days a year. Company is constricting, merit raises were half of inflation across the IT groups this year. Technologies used internally are well behind the leading edge and well behind peer institutions.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dear Fidelity, you have internal incubators like FCAT, use those new technologies across the board like you did during the late 1990's when you brought out the first mobile based trading applications.

    Pros

Excellent talented people. Great benefits and training opportunities. Good company to start your career with.

    Cons

Company has frequent RIFs just small enough to not attract media attention. New England is not strategic unless your company is headquartered here. Dedication and loyalty are not rewarded. Paltry merit increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to do longer range planning. It's time to invest in your people and rebuild your SME.

Gave my all to a company that didn't give it back.

I worked at Fidelity Investments full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The salary for entry-level associates is great and there are a lot of benefits given to the employees

    Cons

Fidelity's quality and effectiveness goals have been increased steadily so that even one misspelled word, missed punctuation, or keeping a client on hold more than 30 seconds can cause you to get written up. Also there's hardly ever openings for promotions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Relying on a checklist to determine what was said, not said, or typed during an interaction is not a good way to determine the quality of the client's service with the company. Constantly increasing the expectations of your associates when Fidelity is already a leader in customer service only causes the employees to become stressed and make more mistakes because they're second-guessing themselves. You'll continue to lose good employees if you don't rethink your performance grading strategy.
