    Pros

Decent place to work. Make sure you are use to office politics. If you play the game well, it will pay off. Otherwise, you won't get anywhere.

    Cons

Politics. The best and the brightest doesn't always succeed here. You must form the proper alliances and you will be rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be aware of your analysts and they career path. They are constantly looking ahead to see what is next. You need to support that.

    I worked at Fidelity Investments

    Pros

Very few left. If you're an FTE "regular employee" they still have a great benefit package: excellent health plan, 401k with match, profit-sharing.

    Cons

You're not going to get an FTE position, never mind keep one if you have it. They've pushed out almost all the competent managers, and have stuck individual contributors as "perma-temps" with horrible/no benefits. The "perma-temp" medical plans stop paying at $5000 even though advertised as $50,000, so don't plan on getting sick or injured. FTE to "perma-temp" ratio is the worst I've seen in 15 years there.

Reorgs coming fast and furious. 4 Managers in 1 year. Raleigh was to be the new Tech HQ and now there are no managers left there, just bodyshop L1 Visa holders, perma-temps of their captive Veritude "temp" agency, and a few FTEs. Hundreds laid off again just this past week across the company, following last year's 10% 4000 person cut, and several "stealth layoffs" between then and now. Most of the very experienced people, especially if they are over 40, have been dumped.

There is absolutely no sense to who they're dumping, if they were sincerely still trying to run and grow the company. They're just cleaning up the balance sheet to make the company's financials look good, in my opinion.

The old-school Wall Streeters who came in to take over from the long-term Boston exec mgmt have now themselves started bailing out of the firm. There's nothing left of last year's 5-year plan except the souvenir mouse pads showing the cartoon of the transformation plan. On which we had to take mandatory training!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest that you're probably just trying to do an LBO, IPO, sale, acquisition, or other transaction on bits and pieces of the business. Anybody who thinks Fidelity will remain a standalone private business much longer is naive.
