Solid company to work for, but not cutting edge in terms of technology.

I worked at Fidelity Investments full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Good benefits, above average pay, great bonuses, stable company. Senior Management is older and mostly promoted from internal groups which shows you can have a long career here.

Cons

Technology groups moved slow to market, used older technologies that legacy systems are based on. Many times there is a mentality that if it's not broke don't fix it, even when systems have the potential for improvement.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be willing to listen to younger employees and try new approaches / technologies

I have been working at Fidelity Investments full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Do not need any investment knowledge. Can be promoted simply due to "needs of the business". If able to stick around for 5+ years, will be able to keep the 7% 401k matching and 10% yearly profit-sharing payout. Great for recent college grads who have not developed professional workplace habits. VERY hands on approaching to coaching and development; multiple people always providing career advice.

    Cons

Some of the lowest pay in the industry. Previous experience is not respected once hired on; only benefits prior to being hired when qualifying for roles. Micromanaged down to the smallest detail. As the title of the review says, gamification of the workplace is in full swing (look it up if unfamiliar; may not be suitable for all individuals). VERY negative attitude towards competitors. Upon resignation of the firm all previous connections will instantly dissolve. Senior management uses smiles and positive speeches to squash any and all critiques/feedback of existing processes. "On-loan" roles are overused in order to keep from permanently funding very enjoyable roles. Lower management uses toys (slinkees, pom-poms, hello kitty candy dispensers) to "encourage and motivate" their teams while in the middle of tax seasons. Overall, very immature and unprofessional work environment. Attrition is a constant battle that is verbally ignored and spoken against.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow down and learn from your competition. Pick a group: green horn college grads or knowlodgable industry professionals. You currently are unable to manage both. Language over knowledge is BAD. I'll repeat, language over knowledge is BAD! Too many customers are being lied to and provided incorrect information by "traders" who have no clue what they are talking about.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
