Pros

Great place to learn the basics of trading if you come from a technical background. There's no such things as promotions or career progression at Fidessa.

Cons

Pay is terrible. They have a routine pay freeze every three years to push the pay scales down. People will leave and then they'll replace them with recent graduates. Those graduates will then leave as soon as they realize they are being taken advantage of. Repeat.

Everything is done in a proprietary language. No one seems to know much about it to explain what's going on. Management forces the senior people to code up the projects since they refuse to wait around for anyone to learn.

Most of their workflow is designed around folks not staying focused on a project or the company for more than a few months. Large pieces of a project are written by people who left or refuse to explain what they did. They think that you can figure out what someone did without looking at what they did.

No one can get along. There are three major development groups, everyone spends more time fighting over who owns what and who's at fault rather than building things.

Their implementation groups lay off people every couple of months or force people to permanently work at a client's site that might not even be in New York City. Managers sit in the corner and refuse to talk to the people who report to them.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

All your good employees either left or are looking to leave. Without keeping your good people, Fidessa is nothing.

    Pros

    - Intelligent people.
    - Plenty of freedom within the firm. For example if you want to work on a personal project to contribute to the team the management will likely listen to what you have to say and allocate you man hours.
    - Good company environment. Ice cream socials, parties, and management who are non-cut-throat nice people.

    Cons

    - Low pay. Low low low.
    - Pay is low. It's really up to you to balance how much you like your job vs how much you're paid.

  2.

Fairly satisfactory experience. Technically innivative organization, but riddled with bureaucracy.
