Pros

Managers and peers are obviously caring

Cons

Opportunities to move up have been few over the last few years, HR process tends to be opaque and slow, and sometimes strategic decisions are not seemingly built out conceptually before being implemented.

Advice to Management

Ensure that strategic decisions do not affect morale by changing a career stepping stone to just a job. This can be accomplished by conceptually building out development opportunities prior to rolling out organizational changes.

    Pros

Intelligent colleagues and many training opportunities

    Cons

Internal departments are very disconnected, not cohesive. Technological initiatives are lethargic and difficult to get implemented. Upward mobility is limited in Commercial Division.

    Advice to Management

Reduce "red-tape" for process improvements involving the IT department

  2. Helpful (1)

No opportunity to advance, mediocracy and incompetence is not only tolerated but celebrated

    Pros

Great benefits, they have made strides in work/life balance

    Cons

No career path, do not promote from within, toxic culture of gossip, general lack of professionalism at all levels and in all divisions. While upper management tries to "sell" employees on an inspiring vision, their daily actions (or more often, inaction) shows stunning hypocracy and a committment to resisting change at all costs. The lack of accountability at every level of the organization makes it a frustrating, soul-killing place to work.

    Advice to Management

While much time, effort, and money has been spent on branding, vision statements, and employee satisfaction surveys, none of these inspiring statements or visions will achieve the desired culture shift as long as long-time middle-managers (Retail Regional Managers, etc.) are allowed to ignore every new initiative and continue to operate using the failed (but comfortable) methods they have always used. Paying lip service to positive ideals and then not backing that up with tangible action is more demoralizing to employees than if there was no vision at all.
