I worked at Firebirds Wood Fired Grill full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Company seems solid
    - Decent clientele
    - Very sophisticated systems and reporting mechanisms in place
    - Company is quickly growing

    Cons

    - Hourly employees are treated as though they are completely disposable
    - Little opportunity for growth or movement within areas currently "saturated" with stores
    - Training program is long and tedious
    - No benefits for non-management and benefits available for NON-management are not great (no STD/LTD, no 401K)
    - LONG hours
    - Extremely high turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You spend so much time and energy investing in training your hourlies; treat them better! Your serving staff is never going to stop turning over if you keep up the 3 table sections and those crazy double schedules. A double comes in and gets cut early because they're a double and makes no money, comes back later and gets cut earlier because they're a double and makes no money. I've seen servers and bartenders work a double and leave with less than $20 for the day. So, they get frustrated, bitter, and the whole environment suffers as a result.

Replace bad management. Pure and simple. If the turnover in a store is high, look no further than your management staff.

Give your staff a break... the 50% off a limited menu from the housrs of 2-4 Monday through Thursday is just plain silly. Have a holiday party. Host a bowling team or something-- anythng-- else that builds morale. Reward good performance, but knock it off with the contests-- every nice gesture from mamangement has strings attached.

Pay your key employees and really work on developing them. This is the most abused person in your entire organization it seems.

Improve benefits for management. Insurance is expensive and subpar. Lack of STD/LTD/401K is going to turn off family-oriented staff members.

Stop running features. They are ALWAYS problematic and wasteful. Until your executive team can get it right, stop trickling down these features to the stores.

Communicate, communicate, communicate. FISH meetings aren't enough. Really let your employees know what's going on to build excitement for the brand.
